This is the first year that I have participated in the Solvang Century. I rode the half-century course. It was a great way to begin my serious training for this summer's tour. The weather was mild, and the fertile fields added to this area's scenic beauty. The course has a lot of steep terrain and passes through the Vandenberg Air Force Base. Of course, I couldn't resist stopping for a Danish pastry before heading back home. Solvang, California is about 200 miles north of my house in the Santa Ynez Valley.
